Right. This is it.
The toddler is asleep.
I’m ready.
I’m going to write my book. Like, right now.
Oh yes I am.
But first, biscuits. Biscuits will help. Definitely. Chocolate ones?
Good, chocolate digestives, found some, can’t stand hobnobs; too sweet. Does anyone like hobnobs really?
*googles ‘hobnob popularity vs digestives’*… oooh, it turns out the chocolate is on the bottom NOT the top of the biscuit, huh, who knew?
Which biscuit is more popular though? No, don’t look, don’t look! MUST CRACK ON!
Cracking on now, no wait! CUP OF TEA! How could I even think of beginning without a cup of tea?
Ah, tea. Tea and biscuits…
Nice mug that, I like Bridgewater.
Which reminds me, there was that lamp I liked…
*googles ‘blue ceramic lamp’*
Ooh that’s lovely, that would look great in the living room… it would match those cushions!
Those cushions that I don’t actually own but I’m sure I saw them in a catalogue the other day. Which catalogue though?
*goes on a hunt through the ‘box of random crap in the kitchen that I don’t want to throw out but don’t quite know what to do with’*
Nope, not there. Could have been online?
*googles ‘ cushions match ceramic lamp blue squiggles’*
What’s with these search results? What have spiders webs got to do with lamps, eh google?!
Although really, spiders are impressive creatures, I mean look at that web!
Oh FFS GET ON WITH THE WRITING!
Ok, Ok, I’m on it! Look at me, I’ve got my laptop open and everything!
I’ve typed the title! I’m cooking with gas! See me go, I’ll have written masses by the time the toddler wakes up from h…
“WAAAAHH!”
Bugger.

(P.S This is my second post for #WhatImWriting this week. Chrissie decided on the (optional) theme: ‘What I’m NOT writing’ but I’ve had such a productive week I wanted to write about that. But then I’m a pro at procrastination so I couldn’t resist writing this post too!)
Love it, perfect procrastinator
Thanks Iona. x
tee hee, love it Maddy! I’m glad you’re actually writing though, can’t wait to hear more about your books lovely xx
Every time I stop procrastinating, I’m writing like a steam train! (?!) xx
GET ON WITH IT!
Tee hee. I am, I am… just let me get a cup of tea first!
Love this and sorry i did laugh, but only because I have been there. Still am. Hugs x
Glad you laughed Susan – it’s important not to take procrastination too seriously, I find! x
All too familiar! And very true. I do love a chocolate hob nob. I would have to add in a toilet visit here, whenever I sit down to write I feel like I need to go the loo first. Really annoying!
I daren’t go to the loo – it’s near the utility room and then I see the mountain of washing and all productivity (in the writing department) is lost! xx
It is incredible how the procrastinating brain is able to make the most random links to keep itself going… Much more constructive when applied to the writing itself of course! I’m generally managing to be pretty focused with my limited editing time at the moment, but pretty much everything else is starting to slip! X
Well done with the focus – brains are far too good at making random connections (and home furnishings are a massive weakness for me!). x
Oh crikey yes, the laptop’s often open here and then I need a loo stop, then I decided I need to get this, that and the other done. And maybe some writing too, if I’m really lucky (or disciplined!) Thanks for joining in with #WonderfulWorldofWriting Maddy
Exactly Carol – it happens to us all! x
Know this very well. Cup of tea, more biscuits, oh, shiney thing. Look someone sent me a link via instant messenger. Just check my work emails…
It’s too easy to fall into the trap and get overwhelmed.
Love the voice here, Maddy x
Thanks Chrissie! Really I should do all my writing in a notebook in the middle of a field or something!
I’m actually pretty good at not procrastinating anymore.
Used to love it though and found it to be a creative thing…
As for writing – I agree, a good cuppa and a biscuit are essential –
come on, first things first, right?! x
You’ve perfectly described my nights (and sometimes days) of writing. It’s brilliant and witty with just the perfect mix of humor. Thank you so much for sharing!
Story of my life. I’m always googling random things or checking Instagram when I should be writing/blogging. And my son doesn’t nap every day now, so I have to get it all done in the evening when I’m tired and more prone to goofing off.
Flipping brilliant!
This is brilliant, how did I miss it when you published (I suspect I was still in my fog of snow and husband with broken hand!). This is so completely me! Especially when I’m tired. Love it
Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x
Oh yes, so familiar. Amazing how fascinating and urgent other things can become isn’t it? I like hobnobs, and I like chocolate digestives too – as long as there’s chocolate involved, I’m not too fussy
xx #ThePrompt
Brilliant! I think we might be procrastination twins as this is exactly what happens with me, with everything!
